SCHEDULE OF EVENTS AUGUST 10-13, 2024

(Co-Sponsored by the West Virginia Dairy Cattle Show, Inc., the WVU Extension Service, the WVU Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Design, and the WV Department of Agriculture)

SATURDAY, AUGUST 10th 

8:00 a.m. Receive cattle (Office opens at 11:00 a.m.)

5:00 p.m. Start Milking

6:00 p.m. Dairy Jeopardy

7:30 p.m. Fitting Clinic

SUNDAY, AUGUST 11th

6:00 a.m. Start Milking

7:30 a.m. Dairy Show Food Booth

8:30 a.m. Registration for State 4-H & FFA Dairy Cattle Judging Contest

9:00 a.m. Dairy Cattle Judging Contest Begins

3:00 p.m. 4-H and FFA Dairy Judging results and awards –about 1 hour after the last youth has completed oral reasons. Plan on mid-afternoon at the earliest.

5:00 p.m. Start Milking

5:30 p.m. Picnic – Free to everyone

7:00 p.m. Y-1 Master Youth Showmanship  Previous overall grand champion showmen who are currently exhibiting at the Dairy Show

Y-2 Senior Youth Showmanship – 15 years of age on 1/1/24 and who have not reached their 21st birthday on or before 1/1/24 and previous Intermediate Showmanship Winners

Y-3 Intermediate Showmanship – ages 12 to 14 years old as of 1/1/24 and previous Junior Showmanship winners.

Y4 Junior Showmanship – 9 years old or in third grade during the current year to 11 years old on or before 1/1/24

Y-5 Overall Grand Champion Showmanship – winner of Senior (Y-2), Intermediate (Y-3), and Junior (Y-4) showmanship classes of this year.

MONDAY, AUGUST 12th

  6:00 a.m. Start Milking

  7:30 a.m. Dairy Show Food Booth

10:00 a.m. Show Class 1 – Class 7 Round Robin (Heifer Classes)

Followed by selection of Junior Champions & Reserve Junior Champions

(Classes 8 & 9). After the Junior Champion Female and Reserve Junior Champion Female selections are made for a breed, Class 10 will be shown for that breed before moving on to the champion selections for the next breed.  Once Classes 8-10 have been completed for all breeds, the Supreme Junior Champion Female (Class 11) will be selected (Youth & Open)

12:00 Noon Silent Auction organized by the Dairy Princess Committee

12:15 p.m. Dairy Show Food Booth

1:00 – 3:00 Pool Open

4:00 p.m. Dairy Skillathon

5:00 p.m. Start Milking

5:30 p.m. Dairy Show Food Booth

6:30 p.m. Pretty Cow Contest

Ice Cream Social sponsored by United Dairy

7:00 p.m. Barn Yard Olympics

TUESDAY, AUGUST 13th

6:00 a.m. Start Milking

7:30 a.m. Dairy Show Food Booth

9:00 a.m. Show Class 12 – Class 18 Round Robin (Cow Classes)

Followed by selection of Senior Champions & Reserve Senior Champions then Grand Champions & Reserve Grand Champions (Classes 19-22). After the Grand and Reserve Champion selections are made for a breed, Classes 23-26 will be shown for that breed before moving on to the champion selections and group classes for the next breed. Once Classes 19-26 have been completed for all breeds, Classes 27-28 will show and then the Supreme Senior Champion (Class 29) will be selected (Youth & Open).

6:30 p.m. Parade of Champions

Crowning of the 2024-2025 WV Dairy Princess

Cattle will be released after conclusion of Tuesday evening’s program.
